LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 52-year-old woman who walked away from a Community Reentry Program facility was apprehended today in downtown Los Angeles.
Stacy Dimico was apprehended without incident about 10:30 a.m. at a bus station, two days after leaving the facility in Los Angeles, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced.
Dimico was sentenced to state prison from Los Angeles County on June 4, 2003, to serve a 21-year sentence for second-degree robbery with the use of a firearm as a second-striker and enhancements for prior serious felony convictions. She also received a two-year sentence in 2012 for in-prison possession of a controlled substance.
Since 1977, 99% of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended, a department official said.
Eligible state prison inmates are allowed to serve the end of their sentences in a re-entry center. The reentry program links offenders to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.
