Ukraine asks Gaming Industry to Stop doing Business with Russia

Ukrainian officials have issued a request to the gaming industry, asking video game companies and Esports organizers to stop doing business with Russia and its ally, Belarus.

  • In a letter published online Wednesday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov urges the industry to "temporarily block all Russian and Belorussian accounts, temporarily stop the participation of Russian and Belorussian teams and gamers in all international esports events and cancel all international events holding on the territory of Russia and Belarus." Fedorov closes the letter by writing, "We are sure that such actions will motivate the citizens of Russia to proactively stop the disgraceful military aggression."
  • Officials with Xbox and PlayStation, both of which were tagged in the letter, have not yet commented on the request.
  • Would calling off Russian gaming events make that much of an impact on the country?
