Netfix to Acquire Studio Behind ‘Stranger Things’ Mobile Game

Netflix has proposed an offer to purchase mobile game maker Next Games as the streaming giant continues its push into the gaming market.

Next Games is the company behind the mobile game based on Netflix’s hit show “Stranger Things” called “Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales,” a mobile role-playing game.

Netflix stepped up its push into the gaming market last year in an effort to broaden its horizons beyond the world of streaming.

Last July, the streaming company hired Mike Verdu, a Facebook gaming executive, and in November the company began rolling out its first mobile games to subscribers.

Verdu said that Next Games would be key to the company’s gaming push.

“We are excited for Next Games to join Netflix as a core studio in a strategic region and key talent market, expanding our internal game studio capabilities. While we’re just getting started in games, I am confident that together with Next Games, we will be able to build a portfolio of world class games that will delight our members around the world.”
