3 Tons Of Space Junk About To Crash Into The Moon

The Moon is about to get a brand new crater - thanks to three tons of space junk hurtling towards it at 5,800 miles per hour.

  • NASA says the debris is from a leftover rocket launched by China more than 10 years ago. It's expected to collide with the Moon's surface on Friday.
  • Because the collision will happen on the so-called 'dark' side of the moon, we won't be able to see it with a telescope. But it's expected to blast a hole up to 66 feet wide and send moon dust flying for hundreds of miles.
  • Do you think we'll ever have a permanent colony on the Moon?
