"SNL" Honors Kyiv With a Performance From a Ukrainian Choir

Instead of the usual cold-open skit, Saturday Night Live opened its most recent show with a touching tribute to Ukraine.

Stars Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon introduced The Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York who sang "Prayer for Ukraine".

The stage was filled with Ukraine's official flower, the sunflower and as the group ended their performance the camera panned down to reveal a table of candles spelling out "Kyiv".

However, the sketch show didn't totally shy away from the story in their usual comedic tone.

Colin Jost and Michael Che addressed the conflict during their "Weekend Update" segment.
