ANAHEIM (CNS) - A suspect in an alleged illegal drug lab that caught fire and exploded in Anaheim remained in critical condition today while two firefighters treated at a hospital for their injuries were released.
The fire was reported at 11:22 a.m. Sunday in a single-story commercial building at 1169 N. Knollwood Circle, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Steve Pena.
``It looks like they were doing some sort of honey extraction -- making hash oil (and) doing a chemical process with marijuana,'' said Sgt. Steve Pena of the Anaheim Police Department.
The process utilizes highly flammable butane, Pena said. It turns stems and other spare parts of pot plants into pure THC.
There was an explosion while firefighters worked to put out the blaze and one of the suspects was critically injured, he said.
One firefighter suffered second-degree burns to one side of his face and another firefighter suffered a back injury when he was blown onto his air tank by the explosion, Pena said. Both were treated at a hospital and released.
One suspect was not injured and was arrested, the sergeant said. That suspect faces felony charges in connection with the clandestine drug lab.
