There was a temporary suspension of avocado imports this week... all due to a 'credible' death threat, officials say.
According to reports, someone threatened a U.S. safety inspector after they denied permission to an avocado shipment from Michoacan, Mexico. That threat led federal officials to suspend all imports from Michoacan -- which is the only Mexican state authorized to ship avocados to the U.S.
U.S. and Mexican authorities are working together to get shipments back on track as quickly as possible, but it could mean a price spike for avocados, on top of the inflation we're already seeing at the grocery store!
