Toyota is starting off 2022 on top. The company has dethroned General Motors as the top-selling automaker in the U.S.
- The company sold 2.3 million vehicles in 2021, compared to 2.2 million vehicles for GM, which saw a drop in production due to supply chain issues and a chip shortage.
- It marks the first time since 1931 that GM has been knocked out of the top spot - and the first time a non-U.S. company topped U.S. sales charts.
- Will GM climb back on top next year? Does any other automaker have a chance to be No. 1?
