In a sentence handed down this week, Corona resident John Kevin McVoy Jr. was ordered to spend 35 years to life behind bars for the January 2017 murder of 33-year-old Susan Garcia, who died while her 2-year-old son was sitting on her lap, prosecutors say.

McVoy had gotten into an argument with the woman's husband, Victor Garcia, after Garcia teased him for voting for Hillary Clinton... McVoy pulled a gun and shot the Garcia, who was in a coma for months afterward, according to prosecutors. He then fired a fatal shot at Garcia's wife.

“As far as my remorse, I think about this every day,” McVoy reportedly said.
