Kahlua Coffee Liquor Offers $25k for a Month-Long Tech Drought

A 30-day break from internet-based technology will land you and your partner (sorry, couples only) the chance to win $25,000.

The challenge, “Kahlua Stir Up Your Routine,” will require winners to take and pass a polygraph test before they can claim their cash prize.

The contest’s rules state that a test will be conducted by a “sponsor-appointed representative to confirm their participation and engagement in the sponsor-provided activities.” The test will also “verify that they completed the requirement to be ‘internet and social media free’ in a manner acceptable by [the Kahlua Coffee Liquor company] during the designated time period for each of the 30 nights of the challenge.”

For the couple that can jump through each of these obstacles, a “Kahlua Kit” on wheels awaits. The kit is comprised of a metal bar cart filled with 30 nights of activities, including Kahlua Espresso Martini mixes, cooking challenges and feng shui guides.

Registration for the challenge is open now and will close on Sunday, January 2nd at 11:59 p.m. EST (that’s 8:59 p.m. PST for those of you like me who are bad at time zone math). If you and your significant other are up to the challenge, your application can be submitted at Kahlua.com/StirItUpChallenge. Requirements to enter include being at least 21 years of age and a recorded video bio telling the company about yourselves.

If you and your partner qualify, you’ll be notified that you’ve been accepted into the competition. Those who aren’t willing to give up their internet and social media can follow updates from Kahlua under the hashtag #KahluaStirItUpChallenge.

The overall goal of this challenge is to encourage couples to spend more time with each other and less time on their devices and social media. Nearly half of Americans “admit” that they spend “five to six hours on their phones daily,” which, according to Kahlua, is the equivalent to nearly nine years spent on their mobile devices.
