SANTA ANA (CNS) - A man and woman were charged today with a gang-related shooting carried out from a Santa Ana apartment complex at a passing car, wounding a mother driving by with her two daughters in the backseat.

Anthony Valencia, 26, and Veronica Edith Friasflores, 29, were scheduled to be arraigned sometime Tuesday in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.

Valencia was arrested Friday and Friasflores was arrested Sunday, according to Cpl. Maria Lopez of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The Dec. 8 shooting was caught on surveillance video, Lopez said.

The video shows gunfire over a wall at an apartment complex in the 600 block of South Sullivan Street, Lopez said. The shooters appear to be aiming at a passing red SUV, but they strike the innocent victim going in the other direction, she added.

The 33-year-old woman was shot in the left part of her chest, pulled over and called 911, Lopez said. Her two daughters, both younger than 10, were in the car but avoided injury, Lopez said.

The victim was hospitalized for about six days, the corporal added.

The nature of the relationship of the suspects was not immediately clear.

Valencia is charged with a count of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon, all felonies, and faces sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, discharge of a firearm, gang activity and personal use of a firearm.

Friasflores is charged with three counts of assault with a firearm and a count of being an accessory after the fact, all felonies.
