LONG BEACH (CNS) - A 102-year-old woman seated in a ``rolling walker'' in front of her Long Beach home was struck and killed by an unattended vehicle that had been parked in her driveway by a family member, police said today.
Helen Morris was injured about 3:40 p.m. Thursday in the 4500 block of Tolbert Avenue and died at a hospital, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
``The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was seated in a rolling walker on the sidewalk in front of her residence,'' police said in a statement. ``An unattended vehicle that was parked in her driveway began to roll backwards and struck the pedestrian.
``Family members who witnessed the collision stopped the vehicle from rolling any further and provided aid to the pedestrian until paramedics arrived. It is unclear at this time what caused the vehicle to roll backwards. ... The last operator of the vehicle, a family member, remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation.''
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at 562- 570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
