WOODLAND HILLS (CNS) - Ground was broken today on a $145.7 million modernization project at Taft Charter High School in Woodland Hills aimed at improving the campuses sports facilities, classrooms and lighting and security systems.
``This project has been a long time in the making, and I'm proud of the advocacy, teamwork and planning that has brought us here today,'' LAUSD Board of Education member Nick Melvoin said in a statement. ``There are so many outstanding programs at this school, and it's exciting to break ground on a new campus benefiting the quality of the Taft community.''
The project, scheduled for completion in 2026, will include construction of a competition-sized synthetic track, softball field, annex building, bleachers, scoreboard, restrooms, elevators and bridges, according to the district.
It will also include seismic improvements to structures such as the school's multipurpose room, industrial arts facility and administrative building. Air conditioning and plumbing upgrades will also be made, along with various other utility, lighting and security upgrades, officials said.
