LOS ANGELES (CNS) - More than five miles of roadway in South Los Angeles will be closed to vehicles Sunday to make way for CicLAvia, clearing the street for pedestrians, bicyclists and skaters.
CicLAvia: South Los Angeles connects the neighborhoods of South Central, Exposition Park, Leimert Park and Crenshaw, encompassing Crenshaw Boulevard between Exposition and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards to Central Avenue.
The free open-street festival will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and follows public health guidelines. Because masks are required at events with over 10,000 attendees, complimentary masks will be available at event information booths. CicLAvia branded masks will also be on sale.
As always, participants are invited to explore the neighborhood on foot, bike, skates or skateboard.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson and state Secretary of Transportation David Kim will help begin the festivities with an 8:30 a.m. news conference near the corner of Obama and Crenshaw boulevards.
CicLAvia officials have said more than 1.6 million people have taken part in the events over the years.
