A man who deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs' Department's West Hollywood Station say went on a recent late-night crime spree is in custody today.
Deputies believe the suspect, armed with a baseball bat and a box cutter, allegedly committed at least three crimes in a two-block radius on Thursday beginning with threatening a victim at a restaurant in the 8600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, said Sgt. Joana Warren of the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station.
When the victim tried to call 911, the suspect allegedly snatched the phone and ran away. At approximately 9:17 p.m. Thursday, deputies received a call about a man matching the description of the earlier suspect attempting to break into vehicles parked at a hotel parking lot in the 8400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. After the hotel manager confronted him, the suspect threatened the manager and ran away prior to the deputies arrival, Warren said.
At 9:56 p.m., a suspect matching the same description in the previous two crimes, approached a victim on the 8200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard at 9:56 p.m. and demanded money. The victim screamed for help and the suspect fled on a scooter. Warren said the suspect was caught when a patrol car spotted a man who matched the description in the earlier crimes at 10:51 p.m. near the intersection of Santa Monica and La Cienega boulevards and a pursuit began when the suspect ran away but he was detained and arrested by deputies.
The suspect, who Warren said faces multiple criminal charges, has not been identified.
