SANTA ANA (CNS) - Three men have pleaded guilty in connection with their part in the fatal gang-related shooting of a 23-year-old man in Fullerton three years ago, according to court records obtained .
Tommy Antonio Navarette, 21, of Anaheim, pleaded guilty Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter, participating in gang activity and being an accessory after the fact, all felonies, and admitted a sentencing enhancement for gang activity.
Co-defendant Carlos Castaneda, 38, of Buena Park, pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and being an accessory after the fact, both felonies, while admitting a sentencing enhancement for gang activity.
Co-defendant Salvador Duran Castaneda, 74, of Buena Park, pleaded guilty to a felony count of being an accessory after the fact.
They were all involved in the shooting of 23-year-old Scott Pedraza near Ford and West avenues about 9 a.m., Oct. 7, 2018.
Navarette and Castaneda were originally charged with a special circumstances gang murder, but the charges were lessened as part of a negotiated plea deal with prosecutors, according to court records.
Navarette was sentenced to 21 years and eight months in prison and given credit for 1,135 days served behind bars. Carlos Castaneda was sentenced to five years, but the punishment was suspended and he was placed on two years of formal probation, according to court records.
Salvador Castaneda was sentenced to two days in jail and placed on two years of formal probation.
A witness told police she saw someone get out of a pickup truck, walk to the victim and did a gang hit-up before killing him, according to court records. Police said Carlos Castaneda told investigators Navarette was the gunman, according to court records.
The relationship between the Castanedas, if any, is unclear.
