Approximately 27,000 white flags have been displayed in-front of the Griffith Observatory to honor all of the Angeleno's who passed away from COVID-19.
The installation of flags began on Thursday and will remain until Monday. It is open to the public.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti put out a statement via a press release. He said:
“This memorial will give us an opportunity to reflect on our collective experience during this pandemic, recognize the resiliency of our city, and come together to create a better future for every Angeleno,”
According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the death toll for COVID-19 in Los Angeles is approximately 26,923.
The installation of flags was part of the Strength and Love Memorial - Through this memorial So-Fi Stadium, the Grand Park Fountain, and Los Angeles City Hall will be lit up in blue to honor those who lost their lives battling COVID.
