There are many photo opportunities available throughout Southern California for tourists – The Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory, Venice Boardwalk, Venice Canals, Santa Monica Pier – the list goes on. But there’s a new photo trend that’s becoming dangerously popular among visitors in Beverly Hills. Tourists have been seen on a stretch of Canon Drive, north of Santa Monica Boulevard. They are running into the street and laying down just long enough to take a few photos and jump out of the way of the next car.

Public Information Officer, Keith Sterling, says it’s not safe. It’s also illegal. A section of the California Vehicle Code states:

"No pedestrian may suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard. No pedestrian may unnecessarily stop or delay traffic while in a marked or unmarked crosswalk."
