A man is in police custody today after he was arrested on gun charges in Pomona.

Danny Barquero, 21, of Pomona  was arrested for possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of a large capacity magazine, said Cpl. Kristian Gutierrez of the Pomona Police Department.

According to Gutierrez, officers from the department's Major Crimes Task Force observed the occupants of a vehicle who were not wearing seat belts in the area of White and Grand avenues at 10:49 p.m. Friday. After the officers stopped the vehicle Banquero, who was a passenger, allegedly attempted to flee prior to it coming to a complete stop. Police say Banquero then shut the door and stayed inside the vehicle and as officers approached, they observed Barquero carrying a handgun. Barquero then allegedly attempted to run away but was quickly caught and the firearm, which was loaded with a large capacity magazine, was recovered, Gutierrez said.
