Tom Hanks Turns Down Blue Origin Flight to Space Offer

Former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos extended an invite to actor Tom Hanks to take a ride to space on his Blue Origin rocket, but Hanks turned it down due to the high price tag, reports The Hill.

Known for his role in the acclaimed film “Apollo 13,” Tom Hanks appeared on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ where he told Kimmel that Bezos expected Hanks to pay if the invitation was accepted. “Well yeah, provided I pay,” said Hanks when asked by Kimmel about the Blue Origin invitation. “It costs like $28 million or something like that.”

“You know what, we could simulate the experience of going to space right now.” To downplay the excitement surrounding these 12-minute-long flights to space that Bezos and Elon Musk have made highly coveted, Hanks joked that everyone could replicate the trip at home by leaning back in their seats and shaking. He then proceeded imitate being aboard a spaceship.

While the actor’s trip to the great beyond has yet to come to fruition, Insider reported that he is on a list with other celebrities that have reserved their seat on Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic space flight.
