Beginning today, people must show proof that they’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 if they want to sit inside nightclubs, bars and wineries in Los Angeles County. A similar requirement will soon extend within the city of L.A. to other businesses that serve customers indoors, including restaurants, movie theaters and retailers.

Since October 7th, bars and nightclubs in L.A. County have had to check for partial vaccination proof or a recent negative Covid test for customers aged 12 and older. Businesses now must check for full vaccination status.

Some businesses, like Irvine-based In-N-Out, have declared themselves unwilling to serve as the government’s “vaccine police.” Health Officials say they will inspect businesses to see which ones are complying and will fine those that are not.

The responsibility to make sure customers follow the vaccine rules will mostly fall on businesses. Sheriff Alex Villanueva says L.A. County deputies will not be assisting businesses with checking proof of vaccinations.
