Nearly 10% of Eligible Voters Participate in Nov. 2 Municipal Elections

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Semifinal results have been announced from Tuesday's local and municipal elections in Los Angeles County, which involved measures in Inglewood, Commerce and Alhambra and local offices in Carson.

A total of 21,913 ballots were counted, with 9.98% of registered voters casting ballots, according to Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan.

There are still outstanding ballots to be counted during the official election canvass, when all conditional, provisional and vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day are processed.

The first post-election update is scheduled for Friday.

The following preliminary results were announced:  

-- A charter amendment to remove all references to the Alhambra Unified School District from the Alhambra city charter was passing with 82% of the votes cast.  

-- A special parcel tax on industrial property for the city of Commerce was passing with 57.9% of the vote.  

-- An increase in the transient occupancy tax paid only by hotel/motel guests in Inglewood was passing with 62.4% of the vote.  

-- A real estate sales tax to fund public safety and essential services in Inglewood was losing with 48.5% of the vote.  

-- In the race for Carson city clerk, Myla Rahman led with 29.2% of the vote, ahead of Monette ``Maria'' Gavino, who had 24.9%, and Vera Robles Dewitt with 21.9%.  

-- In the race for Carson City Council, 4th District, Arleen Rojas led with 34.3%, to Freddie Gomez's 27.3%.
