LONG BEACH (CNS)- A DUI suspect was in police custody today following a high-speed chase that covered three freeways and ended on a Long Beach street.

Officers took the suspect into custody near 12th Street at approximately 11:45 p.m. Wednesday after he drove into a cul-de-sac and jumped out of a silver Audi, tossing an unidentified object to the ground as he ran.

Several California Highway Patrol officers cornered him after a brief chase and the man struggled mightily as the officers attempted to take him down. One officer appeared to shoot the suspect with a stun gun in an attempt to subdue him.

The chase at times reached speeds of close to 130 mph, according to CBS2. The suspect led police from the Santa Ana (5) Freeway to the Riverside (91) Freeway and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and several times exited the freeways only to quickly return to them.

The driver slowed briefly on the Riverside and the Santa Ana freeways on two occasions, allowing a CHP vehicle to come next to the Audi but then sped away.

The suspect shot into a lane on Alondra Boulevard in Norwalk intended for traffic going in the opposite direction in an effort to avoid police, barely missing a collision with an oncoming vehicle.

The suspect has not been identified.
