ALHAMBRA (CNS)- A major structure fire was extinguished in just under two hours by firefighters in the El Sereno area of Alhambra today.

Fire crews were called at 5:20 p.m. to 4900 E. Alhambra Ave. where they found fire coming through the roof of a large one-story commercial building, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Nearly 150 fire personnel battled the flames and smoke, which witnesses said could be seen for miles.

One firefighter sustained a shoulder injury in the final minutes of extinguishing the blaze and was taken to an area hospital in fair condition, Humphrey said.

Firefighters will remain at the scene through the night to overhaul the fire and to monitor any flare-ups, authorities said.

According to KCAL 9 the structure was the former home of the Derby Dolls roller derby group.

Humphrey said one or more streets near the site of the fire will remain closed until fire operations are completed and motorists should avoid the area or seek alternate routes.
