A police officer in New Jersey is being hailed as a hero after safely catching a newborn baby that was dropped from a second-floor balcony.
Officer Eduardo Matute arrived at the scene after reports came in that a man was dangling a baby over a balcony.
Officers tried to negotiate with the man and talk him down, but he threw the one-month old.
Fortunately, Matute was there to make the catch and the child was unharmed.
In a later Instagram post, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop thanked Matute and shared a photo of him holding the baby.
As for the man who threw the child, he was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
