TARZANA (CNS) - Police today were looking for a hit-and-run motorist responsible for fatally injuring a woman riding a skateboard in Tarzana.
The woman, in her early 30s, died at the scene of her injury, which occurred about 12:30 a.m. at Tampa Avenue and Oxnard Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Her name was withheld, pending notification of her relatives.
“A silver 4-door sedan was traveling southbound on Tampa Avenue south of Oxnard Street when it collided with a pedestrian riding a skateboard that was also traveling on Tampa Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk,'' police said in a statement.
The car was described as a possible 2013-2018 Toyota Avalon that has front-end damage, police said.
“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,'' police said.
“The public is also reminded that, as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets by doing so in a safe manner, obeying traffic lights, crossing within marked crosswalks, and obeying the rules of the road.''
A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles for information that helps police solve a fatal hit and run.
