CASTAIC (CNS) - About 320 firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department on the ground and in the air continued efforts today to increase lines of cleared vegetation around a brush fire near the Golden State (5) Freeway north of Castaic.
As of Sunday afternoon, The Route Fire was 63% contained and had consumed 462 acres, Angeles National Forest officials said.
Crews and aircraft will continue to build containment lines and seek to extinguish hot spots, officials said. The fuel is described as brush and chaparral.
The U.S. Forest Service said on its InciWeb site that “an unknown number of structures are threatened,'' but noted “no evacuation warnings are in effect.''
The fire was first reported around 3:55 p.m. Saturday, according to LACFD Acting Dispatch Supervisor Matt Klein.
The blaze left two firefighters with burn injuries, according to reports from the scene.
