LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped four-tenths of a cent today to $4.403, one day after rising one-tenth of a cent.

The average price is unchanged from one week ago, 2.2 cents higher than one month ago and $1.176 greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has risen $1.169 since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price dropped one-tenth of a cent to $4.364, one day after decreasing two-tenths of a cent. It is a half-cent less than one week ago but 1.7 cents more than one month ago and $1.161 higher than one year ago. It has risen $1.153 since the start of the year.

Gas prices have stabilized due to a drop of nearly $1 to the price of a barrel of West Texas intermediate crude oil since last week and the flattening of demand with the end of the summer driving season, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
