NEWPORT BEACH (CNS) - A motorist was seriously injured after driving off Pacific Coast Highway and crashing into a pole in Newport Beach, authorities said today.
The crash occurred about 5:15 p.m. Monday on Pacific Coast Highway at Bayside Drive, according to Newport Beach police Sgt. A. Yim.
The motorist was trapped inside the vehicle and freed by Newport Beach firefighters with hydraulic tools, he said.
The motorist was hospitalized with serious injuries but stable vital signs, Yim said. The motorist's age and gender were not available.
Eastbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were shut down between Bayside and Dover drives for less than an hour.
