LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose a half-cent today to $4.399, the third consecutive increase after changing by two-tenths of a cent or less for 10 consecutive days.
The average price also rose a half-cent Wednesday and three-tenths of a cent Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 1 cent more than one week ago, 4.1 cents higher than one month ago and $1.181 greater than one year ago. The average price has risen $1.167 since the start of the year.
“While prices are down in some areas compared to last week primarily because of lower oil costs, unfortunately Southern California prices began rising again in the last couple of days due to a one-day outage at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo,'' said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
The Orange County average price recorded its largest increase since July 3, rising 1 cent to $4.371. It has risen 2.1 cents over the last three days following a five-day streak of decreases totaling 1.5 cents.
The Orange County average price is 1.4 cents more than one week ago, 4.9 cents higher than one month ago and $1.17 greater than one year ago. It has risen $1.144 since the start of the year.
