California's Newest Fire Triples in Size

California's Caldor Fire has tripled in size, fire officials say.

  • The blaze, which began Saturday evening in El Dorado County, has spread to more than 30,000 acres, according to Cal Fire officials. Firefighters say it remains zero percent contained. Amid the charred remains left in the fire's path is Grizzly Flats, a town with a population of about 1,200 -- and more devastation could be on the way. "The fire continues to pose a high risk to multiple populated communities," reads a statement from Cal Fire.
  • So far, about 6,850 people have been evacuated, according to the Governor's Office of Emergency Services.
