WILMINGTON (CNS) - A man was killed this morning when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a Wilmington street.

The crash happened just after midnight at Avalon Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, according to a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's Operations Center.

The vehicle was southbound on Avalon Boulevard from Pacific Coast Highway when it struck the 30- to 40-year-old man as he crossed the street, the officer said.

The man, who appeared to be homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, the officer said.
