LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose one-tenth of a cent for a second straight day today, reaching $4.358.
The price has changed by two-tenths of a cent or less in seven of the past eight days -- the exception coming Saturday, when it rose four-tenths of acent.
It is four-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 6.2 cents higher than one month ago and $1.195 greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price has risen $1.126 since the start of the year to its highest amount since Oct. 25, 2012, because of a sharp increase in the oil price and higher demand stemming from more people driving to work, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
The Orange County average price dropped two-tenths of a cent to $4.319, one day after increasing by four-tenths of a cent. It is six-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 6.5 cents higher than one month ago and $1.164 greater than one year ago. It has risen $1.111 since the start of the year to its highest amount since Oct. 25, 2012.
