California will Launch the Largest Free Lunch Program in the Country

Starting this fall, lunches at California schools will cost families nothing.

Thanks to an unexpected budget surplus, over six-million public school students will have the option to eat school lunch for free, regardless of their family's income.

According to some stats, about 60% of California students qualify for free lunch, but experts believe the number of kids that need help with food is significantly higher.

Schools in California reported a declining percentage of families even applying for free or reduced lunch at school.
