LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted today to support a state bill giving local tax collectors the authority to cancel property tax penalties in the case of lockdown-related hardships.
Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Hilda Solis co-authored the motion in support of Senate Bill 219, sponsored by Sen. Mike McGuire, D-Healdsburg.
"The Safer-at-Home orders impacted every single resident and business throughout Los Angeles County, and it is imperative for the county to partner with the state to support our taxpayers who suffered financially," Barger said in a statement. "SB 219 is one opportunity to provide much-needed relief and assistance for those negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic."
Solis said such measures are key to economic recovery.
"Support for SB 219 aligns with the county's approach to ensuring an equitable recovery for all, especially among our hardest-hit residents who are still reeling from the economic, social and psychological impacts of the pandemic," Solis said. "The economic recovery of our residents is dependent on how well we support them."
SB 219 is supported by the California State Association of Counties, the Urban Counties of California and the Rural County Representatives of California.
