LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose six-tenths of a cent today to $4.339, its highest amount since Oct. 25, 2012.
The average price had remained the same Friday and decreased two- tenths of a cent Thursday, ending a run of 21 increases in 23 days. It is 1.9 cents more than one week ago, 9.2 cents higher than one month ago and $1.22 greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price has increased more than $1.10 since the start of the year because of a sharp increase in the oil price and increased demand due to more people driving to work, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
The Orange County average price rose four-tenths of a cent to $4.297 -- its highest amount since May 3, 2014 -- one day after dropping three- tenths of a cent. The Orange County average price is 1.5 cents more than one week ago, 9.9 cents higher than one month ago and $1.20 greater than one year ago.
