LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy pleaded not guilty today to filing a false workplace injury claim for disability benefits.

Kevin Adams, 47, of Covina, was charged last September with a felony count of workers' compensation insurance fraud.

Adams, who had worked in the custody division at Twin Towers Correctional Facility, could face a jail sentence of up to five years if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

His current status with the sheriff's department was not immediately available.
