Alleged LB Hit-and-Run Driver Has Second Crash Killing Female Passenger

A 40-year-old Lakewood woman died after the man driving the car she was in allegedly fled the scene of a collision and crashed into several stationary objects before the vehicle burst into flames, authorities said today.

Around 10:45 a.m., Saturday a 51-year-old Los Angeles man was at the wheel of a 1994 Buick Le Sabre that crashed and sped away, according to Long Beach police. He sped a few  blocks away to 10th Street and Long Beach Boulevard and struck a parked 2008 Honda Accord, a street sign, a commercial gas line and a tree before the car caught fire

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was taken by paramedics to a hospital in critical condition, police said.  The man did not have a valid driver's license and was not insured, police said. They did not know whether drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the crash. The names of the driver and the fatally injured passenger were not released.
