When she was 10 years old, Gwen Loughlin wrote a letter to the New York Yankees, asking to be a ball girl.
Her request was denied.
In a reply to Gwen, then General Manager Roy Hamey said:
"While we agree with you that girls are certainly as capable as boys, and no doubt would be an attractive addition on the playing field, I am sure you can understand that in a game dominated by men a young lady such as yourself would feel out of place in a dugout."
That was in 1961.
A lot has changed since then.
Gwen’s daughter sent the old response to the team recently, and the current GM Brian Cashman, had a very different reaction.
So 60 years later, Gwen has fulfilled her dream of being a ball girl on the field at Yankee Stadium.
