LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Councilman Gil Cedillo announced today that his office has placed five dozen bilingual signs in his district to remind residents that fireworks are illegal in Los Angeles.

The signs were placed in the neighborhoods of Highland Park, Mount Washington, Montecito Heights/Sycamore Grove, Glassell Park, Lincoln Heights, Cypress Park, Temple-Beaudry, Westlake and Pico-Union.

“As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, we are hearing more illegal fireworks in our neighborhoods,'' Cedillo said. “It is critical to make people aware of the dangers that exist by setting off illegal fireworks.

“We are in a very dangerous high fire season. Illegal fireworks will only make the fire season even worse,'' he said. “It is important to let people know the dangers of illegal fireworks, the injury and death they can cause to both perpetrators and victims. They also cause traumatic experiences for our veterans who have fought in our wars and to our innocent animals.''

On Friday, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas will hold a news conference to urge people not to shoot off fireworks.
