TORRANCE (CNS)- Firefighters this morning worked to extinguish a blaze that began as a brush fire on the shoulder of the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway, then spread to a homeless encampment and then to a nearby storage lot in Torrance.

Crews were called to the 600 block of West Torrance Street at 12:47 a.m., said Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol.

Kimball said a brush fire that began on the right shoulder of the 110 Freeway quickly spread to the homeless camp and then jumped from the west side of a nearby fence to a storage lot.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department and two Los Angeles County Sheriffs deputies were on scene, Kimball said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
