SANTA ANA (CNS) - A man suffered serious injuries when he crashed a speeding SUV into a wall and then a tree in Santa Ana just as police officers were preparing to attempt a traffic stop, authorities said today.
The incident began about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, when the small SUV sped past a Santa Ana police officer at Lyon Street and Edinger Avenue, said Commander A. Alvarez.
The officer followed the SUV to prepare for a traffic stop and the speeding SUV ran a red light at St. Andrew Place and crashed first into a wall and a tree, Alvarez said.
The driver was taken by paramedics to a hospital with serious injuries, he said. The man was the only person inside the SUV.
