LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles County's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 11.1% in May, matching the revised rate from April, according to figures released today by the state Employment Development Department.
The 11.1% rate was below the 18.8% rate in May 2020, when COVID-19 shut-down orders were in effect.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the May jobless rate was 5.9%, below the April rate of 6.2%.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 7.9% in May, down from 8% in April and below the May 2020 rate of 15.6%. The comparable estimates for the nation were 5.8% in May, 6.1% in April and 13.3% in May 2020.
According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 41,000 jobs between April and May to reach about 4.18 million. The leisure and hospitality sector led the way by adding 14,400 jobs.
