LONG BEACH (CNS) - A search was underway today for two suspects wanted for a Long Beach shooting that left one man dead and another wounded.

Officers were called to the intersection of 20th Street and Wesley Drive just before 11:10 p.m. Sunday on a reports of shots fired. They found a man with gunshot wounds to his chest lying in the road in the 1300 block of Wesley Drive and administered medical aid until the arrival of paramedics, who pronounced him dead at the scene.

The man was identified as a 37-year-old resident of Long Beach, but his name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Officers found another man nearby, suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. His name was withheld.

Detectives learned that two male suspects approached the victims on foot and exchanged words with them before one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the two men, according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.

The two victims did not know each other and were “involved in separate activities'' when they were confronted by the shooters, according to police, who are investigating the shooting as possibly gang-related.

The suspects fled the scene on foot traveling westbound on Wesley Drive, toward Orange Avenue. No suspect descriptions were released.
