Actor Clarence Williams III Dead at 81

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Actor Clarence Williams III, whose career included roles as undercover cop Lincoln Hayes in the 1968-73 TV series “The Mod Squad''  and as Prince's father in the movie “Purple Rain,'' has died of colon cancer in Los Angeles at the age of 81, it was reported today.

Williams died Friday, his manager, Allan Mindel, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The Harlem-born actor's numerous credits also included the movies “Sugar Hill'' in 1993 and “The Butler'' in 2013, and on television in “Twin Peaks'' and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.''

He is survived by his sister, Sondra Pugh, daughter Jamey Phillips, as well as nieces and nephews.
