Rail Service Interrupted at Union Station by Suspicious Package

Rail service at Union Station was interrupted today by a suspicious package on the LA Metro Red Line tracks that turned out to be an electric scooter battery.

Union Station was shut down just after 2 p.m. when the ``suspicious package'' was observed, said LA Metro spokesman Rick Jager. The area was evacuated and bus shuttles took Red and Purple line passengers to the Civic Center station and Gold Line passengers to Chinatown, Jager said.

By about 3:30 p.m., the evacuations were isolated to the Red Line station and Gold Line trains were allowed to return and Amtrak and Metrolink trains were also allowed back, Jager said. The Los Angeles Police Department Bomb Squad was called to the scene, and the area was determined safe around 3:40 p.m., he said.
