Pomona Officers Arrest Gun-Toting Felon

POMONA (CNS) - Pomona police arrested a felon who was armed with a loaded handgun, authorities said today.

Members of the Major Crimes Task Force were on patrol just before 11 p.m. Wednesday at Mission and Hamilton boulevards when they spotted a suspicious man, said Sgt. Mark Medellin.

The man ran, holding what appeared to be a handgun in his front waistband, Medellin said.

Officers caught up with the man and, while trying to restrain him, they confirmed there was a handgun in his waistband, he said.

“A struggle ensued and the subject attempted to arm himself with the firearm,'' Medellin said. “Officers were able to subdue the subject in order to recover the loaded firearm.''

Samuel Joseph Dykier, 21, was arrested for suspicion of possessing a loaded and stolen firearm and other related offenses. Officers also found him in possession of ammunition and heroin. He was booked into the Pomona city jail, the sergeant said.
