HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - “The Mitchells vs. the Machines'' topped the weekly list of the most-watched programs on the four streaming services whose viewership figures are announced by Nielsen released today.
Viewers spent 853 million minutes watching the Netflix computer-animated science fiction comedy film between May 3-9, its first full week of release. Viewership was up 65.3% from the previous week when viewers spent 516 million minutes watching it during its first three days of release, ninth for the week.
Despite a 1.7% drop in viewership from the previous week, “Grey's Anatomy'' rose three spots to second, with viewers watching 733 million minutes of 370 episodes of the ABC medical drama that streams on Netflix. Viewers watched 746 million minutes the previous week.
“NCIS'' was third for the second consecutive week with viewers watching 721 million minutes of 353 episodes of the CBS action drama that streams on Netflix, 17.3% less than the 872 million minutes watched the previous week.
“Jupiter's Legacy'' was among two programs in the latest Top 10 that were not in the previous week's with viewers watching the canceled eight-episode Netflix superhero series for 696 million minutes in its first three days of release.
The release of the nine-episode second season of “Selena: The Series'' put the Netflix biographical drama about the slain Tejano singer in the Top 10 for the first time since the week of Dec. 7-13, with viewers watching 639 million minutes of its 18 episodes, seventh for week. The second season was released May 4.
Dropping out of the Top 10 were Netflix's social media competition “The Circle'' and the Canadian family drama “Heartland'' that streams on Netflix.
The previous week's leader, “Shadow and Bone,'' dropped to ninth with viewers watching 555 million minutes of the eight-episode Netflix fantasy, 53.4% less than the 1.192 billion minutes the previous week.
There were two non-Netlfix programs in the Top 10.
“The Handmaid's Tale'' was fifth for the week with 690 million minutes watched of 40 episodes, including the fourth episode of its of its fourth season, which was released May 5. The Hulu dystopian drama was second the previous week with 1.039 billion minutes watched of 39 episodes.
“Without Remorse'' dropped four spots to eighth, with viewers watching the Amazon Prime Video action thriller film for 568 million minutes in its first full week of release, 25.3% less than the 760 million minutes watched in its first three days of release the previous week.
Nielsen also announces streaming viewership of Disney+ programming.
The top 10 consisted of four original streaming series, three series that originally aired on U.S. broadcast or cable networks, two movies and “CoComelon,'' which originated as 3D animation videos of both traditional nursery rhymes and original children's songs on YouTube.
The Top 10 programs were “The Mitchells vs. the Machines''; “Grey's Anatomy''; “NCIS''; “Jupiter's Legacy''; ”The Handmaid's Tale''; “Criminal Minds''; “Selena: The Series''; “Without Remorse''; “Shadow and Bone''; and “CoCoMelon.''
The figures only reflect television set-related viewing, including such television-connected devices as Roku and Apple TV. Mobile-only viewing is not included in Nielsen's streaming measurement systems.
