HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - The Netflix fantasy “Shadow and Bone'' was the most-streamed program, according to weekly figures released today by Nielsen, two spots higher than the previous week.
Viewers watched 1.192 billion minutes of the eight-episode series based on the Grisha novel trilogy between April 26-May 2, its first full week of release. Viewership was up 65.3% from the 721 million minutes watched during its first three days of release.
“The Handmaid's Tale'' topped the three programs in the latest Top 10 that were not in the previous week's lineup. The series placed second with 1.039 billion minutes watched of its 39 episodes, including the first three episodes of its fourth season, which were in their first six days of release. The new episodes of the Hulu dystopian drama were the first to be released since Aug. 14, 2019.
The other programs in the latest Top 10 that weren't in the previous week were the Amazon Prime Video action thriller film “Without Remorse,'' fourth for the week with 760 million minutes watched in its first three days of release, and the Netflix computer-animated science fiction comedy film “The Mitchells vs. the Machines,'' ninth for the week with 516 million minutes watched in its first three days of release.
“Without Remorse'' and “The Mitchells vs. the Machines'' were the only non-Netflix programs in the Top 10. Nielsen also announces streaming viewership of Disney+ programming.
Dropping out of the Top 10 was the six-episode Marvel miniseries that streams on Disney+ “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,'' and two programs that stream on Netflix, the short-lived ABC romantic comedy-drama “The Baker and the Beauty'' and the 2014-18 Nickelodeon quadruplets comedy “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.''
One week after finishing first, “NCIS'' dropped to third with 872 million minutes watched of its 353 episodes, 2% less than the 890 million minutes watched the previous week.
The top 10 consisted of four series that originally aired on U.S. broadcast or cable networks, three original streaming series, two movies and “CoComelon,'' which originated as 3D animation videos of both traditional nursery rhymes and original children's songs on YouTube.
The Top 10 programs were “Shadow and Bone''; “The Handmaid's Tale''; “NCIS''; “Without Remorse''; “Grey's Anatomy''; “Criminal Minds''; “The Circle''; “CoCoMelon''; “The Mitchells vs. the Machines''; and “Heartland.''
The figures only reflect television set-related viewing, including such television-connected devices as Roku and Apple TV. Mobile-only viewing is not included in Nielsen's streaming measurement systems.
