A Gavin Newsom supporter has challenged the legitimacy of the recall and is seeking to cancel it! The Sacramento-area resident says a Sacramento County Superior Court judge violated the CA constitution when he gave recall proponents more time to gather signatures.
In November, Judge James Arguelles gave recall proponents a 120-day extension to gather valid signatures. Recall backers told Arguelles that they needed additional time due to the pandemic and couldn’t meet the 160-day deadline. At the time of the ruling, they had only collected 700,000 valid signatures and needed 1,495,709. In March, they had gathered enough signatures to make the ballot.
The Newsom supporter has filed a request this week for an injunction in the 3rd District Court of Appeals in San Francisco seeking to cancel the recall! That means all of the signatures could be thrown out!
